Clocks can change - Moving stays the same

Daylight Savings Time (DST) is the practice of setting clocks forward byone hour in the spring and back by one hour in the fall to make better use ofnatural daylight.

The idea is to extend evening daylight in the warmer months, reducing the need for artificial lighting and saving energy.

How It Works:

  • Spring Forward 🌞: Clocks are set one hour ahead in the spring, typically in March or April.
  • Fall Back 🍂: Clocks are set one hour back in the fall, usually in October or November.

Purpose:

  • To make better use of daylight during the longer summer days.
  • To conserve energy by reducing electricity usage in the evening.
  • To provide more daylight for outdoor activities after work or school.

Who Observes It?

  • Many countries, including most of North America and Europe, observe DST.
  • Some places, like Hawaii and most of Arizona in the U.S., do not observe DST.
  • Several countries have abandoned it due to inefficiencies or lack of significant energy savings.
